COMMENT FROM KRYSIA WEST, OWNER OF PERFECTLY POSH HAIR DESIGN

At Perfectly Posh, we have abstained from gossip magazines for a number of years now in the salon. We provide health, fitness for men and women, and fashion magazines. We want our guests to relax and chill out when they visit the salon and ensuring they have something positive and uplifting to read is important to us. With light of recent events it is encouraging to see other salons following this approach and removing this ilk of magazine from their space too – in my opinion, it is about time this movement happy and we wholeheartedly support it.

COMMENT FROM KAREN THOMSON, OWNER AND DIRECTOR OF KAM HAIR AND BODY SPA

In light of recent events we noticed a salon had decided to stop providing gossip magazines in their salon whilst clients are in having a service. We decided to jump on the back of this, as we think this is something really important and although it’s a small change, we hope it will be a very effective change. Negativity and shaming is something we do not want to promote in the salon – we want good positive vibes only, and therefore we only want to supply magazines that are positive and inspirational. We feel it’s important to promote a positive environment at KAM and we want our clients to come in and feel like they are number one and leave feeling uplifted and having had an amazing experience. Reading negative comments in gossip magazines can have a massive effect on someone’s day and how it can make them feel and therefore we will now only offer inspirational and feel good magazines including magazines for the mind and body, as well as interior and food magazines. We hope this is something other salons will consider too – as every small change really makes a difference.
